The Use of Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation for the sterilisation of microorganisms has been known about since the nineteenth century and is well accepted as a proven technology. Despite this fact there have, until now, been very few commercially available engineering alternatives that utilise this established method of control of microorganisms. Ultraviolet radiation can be divided into three bands, A, B and C all with different properties and applications. UVc radiation is the shortest and most powerful band occurring between 100-280 nanometres. Microorganisms are vulnerable to the effects of UVc specifically at the precise wavelength of 253.7 nanometres.

At 253.7nm, UV-C radiation penetrates the nucleus of microorganisms, disrupting their DNA. This destroys the ability of the organism to reproduce; effectively rendering it harmless.


In tests, Medixair has been shown capable of delivering a log6 reduction in microbial concentration.


Medixair uses UVc to eradicate microorganisms. Germicidal irradiation levels are expressed in terms the amount of UVc energy required to kill any given microorganism. These levels of UVc energy are achieved by exposing microorganisms to a combination of power and dwell time within Medixair; this forms the basis for the unique design of our product.
